Itinerary Details
  1. Day 1
    Arrive in Auckland

    Collect your rental car and drive to your central hotel (21km, ~40m). Spend the day exploring the “City of Sails”. Wander Viaduct Harbour, shop on Queen Street, or admire views from the Sky Tower before dinner.

  2. Day 2
    Auckland → Waitomo → Rotorua

    Travel south to Waitomo for an included eco-guided cave tour, marveling at illuminated glowworms. Continue to geothermal Rotorua (345km, ~4.5h). Spend the afternoon exploring the lakefront or thermal spas.

  3. Day 3
    Discover Rotorua

    Explore geothermal landscapes, bubbling mud pools, and mineral terraces. Tonight, enjoy the included Te Puia Te Pō Māori Cultural Experience, featuring storytelling, a hāngī feast, and the illuminated Pōhutu Geyser.

  4. Day 4
    Rotorua → Wellington

    Launceston → Cradle Mountain

    Cradle Mountain → Smithton

    Travel to the north-west coast via Leven Canyon and Rocky Cape National Park. Visit the historic fishing village of Stanley, admire views from The Nut, and continue to Smithton (240km, ~4.5h).

    Explore takayna / Tarkine

    Explore the ancient wilderness of takayna/Tarkine, a vast cool-temperate rainforest. Visit the impressive Trowutta Arch and tranquil Lake Chisholm, traveling through pristine landscapes rich in Aboriginal heritage (170km, ~3.5h).

  14. Day 14
    Smithton → Launceston

    Travel east along the northern coast to Table Cape, Burnie, and Penguin (250km, ~4h). Sample renowned artisan produce like whisky, cheese, and cider along the way. Arrive back in Launceston for your final evening.

    Depart Launceston

    Visit spectacular Cataract Gorge Reserve for a final morning walk. Drive to Launceston Airport, return your rental car (25km, ~45m), and check in for your flight, concluding your New Zealand and Tasmania self-drive journey.
